Rain permitting, do not miss the Felix Sanchez Invitational, especially events on Saturday, 14 May. The invitational under the auspices of the International Association Athletics Federation will take place at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium. Athletes are competing for US$105,000 in cash. An estimated 200 athletes will be competing.
The list of stars that have accepted the DR’s only Olympic gold medallist’s invitation include Asafa Powell (Jamaica), who did 9.84 meters (the third best run in history) last week in the 100 meter dash of the Jamaica Grand Prix. He will be running the 200 meter dash. Also participating are 400 meters hurdler Bayano Kamani (USA), Joanna Hayes (Athens Olympic gold medalist in the 100 m hurdles), Ottis Harris, Ivan Pedroso (Cuban Olympic gold medalist in the long jump) and Anier Garcia (Cuban Olympic bronze medalist in the 110 m hurdles). Felix Sanchez (gold in the 400 meters hurdle for the DR in the Athens Olympics) himself will be running in the 400 meters hurdles.
Tickets for the IAAF Grand Prix rated event are: RD$200 and RD$100.
