Support for anti-terrorism law

Lawyers consulted on an anti-terrorism law initiative by Deputy Pelegrin Castillo believe that terrorism is not currently an issue for the DR, but that it should be punished by effective legislation, as reported in Diario Libre. Former FINJUS director Eduardo Jorge Prats gives his total support for the creation of a law that would confront terrorism with strong punishment. Meanwhile, Alejandro Moscoso Segura, Commissioner for the Support of the Reform and Modernization of Justice stated that the bill is a step forward in the sense that is establishes the criminalization of terrorism. “Fortunately, we live in a situation where we are not a target for terrorism” said Moscoso. He pointed out that the new Criminal Code also penalizes terrorism, so both laws must be made compatible.
