Cargo rates up 30%

The Federacion Nacional de Transporte Dominicano (Fenatrado), the truckers union that imposes its services on local business, is announcing a 30% increase in its tariffs for transporting cargo nationwide. Union president Blas Peralta said that the increase is due to increased fuel costs, and the new tollbooths the government has installed in the Nagua-San Francisco de Macoris and Guerra highways, and another that is planned for Navarrete. The cost of transporting food products is now calculated at RD$13.81 the cubic meter per kilometer. The cost of transporting construction materials is RD$7 the cubic meter per kilometer.
