Leonel Almonte arrest ordered

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito has ordered the arrest of former banker Leonel Almonte on the grounds that bail issued by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals in Santiago is overdue. Almonte is accused of fraud amounting to RD$145 million against a group of clients of the bankrupt Banco Universal. He was also economic advisor to former president Salvador Jorge Blanco (1986-1990), had controlling shares of Rahintel TV station (Channel 7), La Noticia daily paper, HIN Radio, Kia del Caribe and other businesses. He also faced charges together with Jorge Blanco, former Armed Forces Minister Manuel Antonio Cuervo Gomez and businessman Pena Valentin.
