The Banker, a United Kingdom publication, has awarded the governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic the prize of “Central Bank Governor of the Year 2006 for the Americas Region”. The prize was awarded in recognition for Valdez Albizu’s work in the recovery of the Dominican economy. This was announced in the January edition of The Banker. The magazine is part of the Financial Times Group. The report said that “the Dominican Republic recovered in 2005, vigorously expanding the economy and ending the year with single digit inflation”.
