According to the latest statistics, there are 3.62 million active cellular phone accounts in the Dominican Republic. Of these, 3.1 million (86%) use pre-paid calling cards, according to a report in Listin Diario. Just 2.1% of these cell phones use the analog wireless system. The use of beepers has gone down from 177,919 in 1999 to just 650 today – a 99% reduction.
