30,000 applicants for 484 jobs

Thousands of Dominicans have submitted their applications and other documents at the Ministry of Labor (SET) with the hope of being selected to receive a working visa for Spain. Spanish companies are currently offering 484 openings for Dominicans. The deadline for applications is this Friday, according to a report in Diario Libre. The Migratory Contingent coordinator Virgilio Baldera reported that over 27,000 applications have been placed to fill jobs in businesses, hotels, domestic work and as industrial electricians. Since 17 December 2002, when the agreement on the regulation and organization of migratory flow was signed between Spain and the DR, 1,740 Dominicans have traveled to Spain. On this occasion expectations have been surpassed, according to Labor Minister Jose Raman Fadul, who said that he had ordered the printing of 30,000 application forms. The Dominican workers selected in this program will receive monthly salaries of ?700 to ?1,200 and a one-year work contract, as well as social security and other benefits.
