The methodology that will be used in the constitutional reform process will be ready by the end of this month or early July, according to Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) rector, Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado, who was given the task of defining this together with Carlos Dore Cabral and Marcos Villaman, as reported by Diario Libre. The reform, which is being coordinated by the Economic, Social and Institutional Council, will involve a broad consultation process with all sectors of society using the document that was agreed upon in 2001 as a reference point. By the end of July, all sectors of society will be convened to discuss the constitutional reform, reported Monsignor Nunez.
The Dominican Constitution establishes that the Senate is the organization responsible for constitutional ammendments. The ruling party, the PLD, won majority in the Senate for 2006-2010 and thus PLD senators will decide on the changes proposed during the hearings.
