Around 60 international observers ascribed to the Organization of American States (OAS) are expected to arrive in the DR to monitor the 16 May midterm elections. OAS representative Bertha Santoscoy said they are working on the planning of the trip, which responds to a request made by the government and the Central Electoral Board (JCE).

Public hearings have been called for tomorrow by the Senate to debate the bill seeking to create Matias Ramon Mella Province. The projected new province would consist of the municipality of Santo Domingo Este. It was submitted to Congress by Senator Tonty Rutinel.
