Quisqueya project imminent?

The Fernandez administration has authorized the transfer of the 118,000 square meters where the Quisqueya Stadium is located to the National Housing Bank (Banco Nacional de la Vivienda – BNV). In his 27 February state of the nation address, President Leonel Fernandez mentioned that the government was backing the construction of a new sports center including a four-star hotel, shopping center, 200 apartments and a baseball museum, as well as the remodeling of the stadium. The US$115 million project is due to be completed in time for the city to host a round of the World Baseball Classic games in 2013. Joaquin Geronimo, general manager of the BNV said that details would be forthcoming.
