The Chamber of Deputies has approved a US$78.1 million loan for the construction of the Guaigui Dam in La Vega province. The government is borrowing from the London branch of Deutsche Bank. The agreement between the bank and the Dominican government involves US$70 million in funds with an additional US$8.1 million to cover the cost of premiums of the Norwegian Agency for Export Credit (GIEK) in order to finance “the design, supervision and construction of the dam on the Guaigui River”. The Chamber of Deputies approved the project after a commission issued a favorable report.
