Barrick shipment sent back to Cotui plant

A shipment that was detained at the Las Americas International Airport cargo warehouse was returned to the Cotui mining plant after the Department of Customs established that there were irregularities in the export declaration form. The shipment of four boxes of dore bars valued at US$16 million had been ready for export since Tuesday, 9 April, as reported in Listin Diario. The shipment had arrived by helicopter but was returned by truck to Cotui.

As reported, the shipment was rejected for export because the declaration statement did not match the volume of the shipment and the mining company failed to meet the requirements of Customs Law 3489.

On 14 March, the Department of Customs delayed a shipment of four dore bars that was declared for US$11.6 million and labeled as produced in the United States.
