A young woman teacher from the US died and another four people were injured in a traffic accident on the Duarte Highway outside the Metropolitan Hospital of Santiago (HOMS). The accident happened at 10pm on Tuesday 14 May.
24-year-old Megan Garven from Philadelphia, who taught at John Christian School, died after the Nissan vehicle in which she was traveling was hit by a Jeep.
A fellow teacher, identified as Audrey Hickman of Chicago was seriously injured. Others with injuries are Bianca Reyes Suriel, Farah Marrero Jaquez and the driver of the other vehicle, Jose Oliver Nazario Brugal. Witnesses say the accident was caused by Nazario Brugal’s reckless driving, as reported in El Nacional.
The school canceled classes on Wednesday, 15 May.
