Government creates high school welfare bond

Vice President Margarita Cedeno’s office has announced the launch of an educational bond aimed at benefiting 61,176 high school students. The Vice President made the announcement of the new Bono Escolar Estudiando Progreso (Beep) at the Presidential Palace yesterday, Tuesday 4 June, together with Minister of Education Josefina Pimentel. Beneficiary students will receive RD$500 to RD$1,000 a month. The aim is to reduce the number of students who drop out of school. Families will receive RD$500 for students in 9th grade, RD$750 for those in 10th grade, and RD$1,000 for those attending junior and senior grades. The bond is expected to benefit 46,000 low-income families.
