The Dominican swimmer who accomplished the feat of swimming across the English Channel, Marcos Diaz, has announced his retirement from the sport. Last year, President Danilo Medina appointed him to the post of Deputy Minister of Sports. Diaz says he will swim across from the Bahia de Ocoa to Salinas in Peravia on Sunday, 9 June as a symbolic last swim. In 2010 he swam across five continents, with the support of the Office of the Vice President and United Nations. The 38-year-old has been swimming long distance worldwide for the past 11 years.
