The AH1N1 human influenza outbreak has extended to 13 provinces of the Dominican Republic according to a report yesterday, Tuesday 11 June, from the Ministry of Public Health in Santo Domingo. The epidemiological bulletin for week 22 – including 6 June – reports that there have been eight fatalities resulting from the human influenza AH1N1 virus. According to the health authorities, they have seen 603 cases of the AH1N1 flu this year. According to Listin Diario, the provinces that have reported cases of this illness are Santiago, Puerto Plata, La Vega, Espaillat (Moca), Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris), Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui), Monsignor Nouel (Bonao), Azua, San Cristobal, Monte Plata, Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macoris and La Romana. Of the eight fatalities, four were pregnant women.
