The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) has announced the seizure of 1,317 full-sized marijuana plants, weighing 489 pounds. The plantation was located in Loma del Cateye, in the province of Peravia (Bani).
At a press conference, DNCD spokeswoman Jacqueline Lamarche said that the DNCD president himself, Major General Julio Cesar Souffront Velasquez, had traveled to the area by helicopter but then had to make a two-hour trek on mule and on foot to get to the farm due to its extremely inaccessible location. The plants were between 10 and 12 feet tall.
Souffront was accompanied by the attorney general for the province, Ramon Constantino and other members of the DNCD regional south-central division, commanded by Army colonel Rolando Hector Ymaya. The officers were acting on tip-offs about the location of the farm.
