DR defeats Jamaica in FIBA Americas Championship

Holding on to its hopes of winning one of four slots to the World Championship that will be held in Spain next year, the Dominican Republic defeated Jamaica 78-60 on Thursday 5 September in the FIBA Americas Championship taking place in Caracas. The last time the DR had played Jamaica was at the Centrobasket 2010, when the DR defeated Jamaica 80-64 with 23 points scored by Al Horford, the star Dominican player who is not on the Dominican team this time.

The DR played Jamaica for 17-11 in the first quarter, 25-18 in the second, 15-16 in the third and 21-15 in the fourth for a 78-60, 18-point win over Jamaica. Because it only defeated Argentina and lost its commitments against Mexico and Venezuela, cannot afford to lose games in order to win a slot. This is the second round of games to decide the top four.

James Feldeina scored 22 points and five rebounds, followed by Jack Martinez with 13 points and six rebounds. For Jamaica, the best scorer was Akeem Scott with 21 points and eight rebounds.

The Dominican Republic plays its archrival Puerto Rico this evening, 6 September at 7:30pm, Venezuelan time.
