“Forces at work” to disrupt Foreigner Legalization Plan

Interior and Police Minister Jose Ramon Fadul says that certain groups have been set up specifically to disrupt and discredit the National Foreigner Legalization Plan (PRNE) that officially ended yesterday, Tuesday 16 June 2015, and which offered free and fast tracked status legalization for undocumented foreigners.

Fadul said that members of what he called the “Tonton Macoutes,” the notorious Haitian death squads during the Duvalier dictatorships, were taking Haitians to the Plan offices. He said it was no coincidence that the offices had been open all this time (for more than a year) and yet thousands of people suddenly showed up on the last couple of days. Fadul said that they were definitely being handled and led in an attempt to put additional pressure on the Dominican government to extend the duration of the plan.

Fadul advised all the foreigners who had registered under the Plan to complete their paperwork.

He reiterated that the Plan ended today, Wednesday, 17 June 2015. As of now, the government will implement the country’s immigration laws.
