Why full auto insurance is so important here

If you do not have full insurance, you may be out of luck if you have an accident, warns the executive vice president of the Banreservas insurance company. Osiris Mota of Seguros BanReservas says that an estimated 60% of all vehicles in the country are uninsured. Basic insurance covers injuries that the designated driver or policyholder causes to someone else and damage caused to someone else’s property. Not having this basic coverage is in violation of the Dominican law, which requires at least a basic (third-party) vehicular insurance policy, but is all too common, as Mota warns. Mota says that in the case of motorcycles the situation is even worse, as only 300,000 of 1,880,000 motorcycles on the roads are insured.

He warned that since the DR is known as a country with a high rate of traffic accidents, the large number of uninsured vehicles has a high social and economic cost.

He urged the government to apply the law and penalize all who have not insured their vehicles.
