Minister of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo, says that the problem currently being faced by the top executives of Norberto Odebrecht and Andrade Gutierrez public works contracting companies in Brazil will not have any repercussions in this country, assuring all that there is nothing to worry about.
Castillo said the Dominican government is satisfied with the work Odebrecht is carrying out in the country and that his Ministry has the mechanisms in place to ensure the work is done in an appropriate manner.
The Brazilian authorities are currently investigating the company regarding alleged overvaluations of projects, which have caused an international scandal.
Castillo said Odebrecht is a very large company with many divisions and the current investigations focused on Brazil involve the petrochemical division. It is Odebrecht’s construction division that has operations in the Dominican Republic.
Odebrecht have many construction contracts underway in the Dominican Republic, including the Duarte Corridor, work in the West of the country, Santiago and the new Ocoa highway.
