Judge orders return of airplane to Venezuelan fugitive of justice

The Judge of the Fourth Courtroom of the Penal Chamber of the Court of First Instance, Awilda Reyes Beltre, ordered the return to a Venezuelan businessman an airplane that the District Attorney Office says belonged to the fugitive president of the bankrupt Banco Peravia, Jose Luis Santoro. The magistrate accepted an appeal filed by Jose Bacile, who requested the return of the aircraft, alleging that he is the legitimate owner. The lawyer for the plaintiff, Julio Pena Guzman, presented documents that proved his client was the rightful owner of the aircraft. The airplane is in a hangar at the La Isabela Airport located in northern Santo Domingo. In March of this year, four Venezuelan pilots who arrived in the country with the intention of stealing the plane were arrested.

Santoro is accused by the government and depositors of being part of a multi-million dollar fraudulent scheme that resulted in the collapse of the bank.
