State university was hacked

The rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Ivan Grullon, said that the problems the university is experiencing with the electronic registration system is due to an attack on the system by hackers.

He explained that there have been cyber attacks to the system originating outside the university and technicians from Indotel, Claro telecom and the National Police were working to get the system up and running, which would allow more than 4,000 students to complete their registration.

He stressed that the problems were not due to a lack of payment.

Last July, UASD had to suspend the registration process due to technical faults with the university’s computer systems connections with the Internet service providers.
