On Tuesday, 4 August 2015 at around 6am, at least seven assailants, who are assumed to be Haitian, attacked the army post in El Dique on the border area and got away with two M 16 rifles, one of which belonged to a soldier on duty.
General Domingo Medina Mendez, head of the Fifth Army Brigade, left Barahona and headed for the Enriquillo Army base to carry out the investigation.
The sergeant major, who was in command of the post at the time of the attack, was detained for questioning while the case is being investigated. No other individuals have been detained at this time.
The situation has generated tension along the border in that area.
