Dam now reaching crisis levels

The Santiago Water Corporation (CORAASAN) has announced that water is being rationed due to the drought affecting the country, adding that on Monday, 3 August 2015, the Tavera-Bao dam was at 313 meters above sea level just two meters over the critical point of 311 meters. CORAASAN said that despite the recent light rainfall that passed over the central highlands recently, the level of the dam was still falling drastically.

Head of Operations and Maintenance for Drinking Water, Hector Jaquez explained that the dam needed to be above 320 meters for there to be normal operations and with levels below this threshold, CORAASAN was forced to begin a water rationing program.

He said that in addition they would use water trucks to distribute water and would drill more wells in Jacagua and Tamboril.
