Guillermo Moreno has been officially proclaimed presidential candidate for Alianza Pais, which only recently secured official party status from the Central Electoral Board (JCE), two years after it submitted the necessary paperwork. In his acceptance speech at the proclamation ceremony on Sunday, 20 September 2015, Moreno highlighted that in the Dominican Republic the state is inoperative, laws are not respected and people live in fear of crime and violence. The Alianza Pais presidential candidate said that democracy had been hijacked by the ruling party and the budget was a business plan in the hands of many ministers who profit from the taxes paid by citizens. He proposed to reform the Police, which he says is at the service of “mafias,” review the contracts and concessions granted by the state and review the free trade agreements that he says have bankrupted thousands of farm producers.
