The private cemetery, Parque del Prado, that is located in Santo Domingo East, is promoting its pet cemetery area that has been open since 2011. To date, around 200 pets have been buried there and another 500 pets have been cremated by the cemetery. These are mostly dogs, cats, birds and turtles.
Gina Victoriano Collado, administrative director of the cemetery, says the pets are from families that live in the National District, Punta Cana, La Romana, Jarabacoa and Puerto Plata.
