Asisa Research shows Leonel Fernandez ahead of Luis Abinader

Asisa Research poll results released this week via the Listin Diario reveal that 71% do not want the Constitution to be amended again so that President Danilo Medina can run for President a third time. The same poll indicates that former President Leonel Fernandez of the ruling PLD party and former PRM presidential candidate Luis Abinader are the highest ranked among the preferences to be their party’s presidential candidates in the 2020 general election. Fernandez was President from 1996-2000, 2004-2008, and 2008-2012.

43% of those polled said that they would favor Leonel Fernandez in a PLD primary, 31% Danilo Medina, and 17% Vice President Margarita Cedeño. The candidate with the highest acceptance in the PRM is former PRM candidate Luis Abinader with 62%, followed by former President Hipólito Mejia with 18% and National District Mayor David Collado with 16%.

The politician with the highest rejection rate was Hipólito Mejía with 22%, Leonel Fernandez with 17% and Danilo Medina with 14%, Miguel Vargas 8% and Ramfis Domínguez Trujillo 7%.
The poll matched Leonel Fernández against Luis Abinader, and Fernandez received 46% of the vote compared to 36% for Abinader.

The poll was carried out 17-19 March 2018 in 200 locations nationwide. Some 2,002 eligible voters were polled.
