Cooperation agreement to improve prisons

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Attorney General of the Dominican Republic (PGR) signed a cooperation agreement on 19 April 2019 intended to strengthen the PGR’s capacity to promote citizen security.

Through the agreement, the Department of Public Security (DPS) of the OAS says it will support the PGR through the exchange of experiences and the design and implementation of strategies to strengthen and consolidate the progress that the Dominican Republic has made in the modernization of its penitentiary system, with the implementation of the program known as the New Penitentiary Model.

The signed agreement establishes a commitment of cooperation between the OAS and the office of the attorney general in matters of juvenile justice through the exchange of good practices, the realization of joint projects in the matter, and normative development.
