Celebrations in Puerto Plata

On Sunday 8 September 2019, there were celebrations in Puerto Plata to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the birth of General Gregoria Luperón.

The Permanent Commission of Patriotic Anniversaries (CPEP), together with the Ministries of Defense and Education, the government of Puerto Plata and the Gregoria Luperon museum, organized a range of activities.

The main celebration was at his station in the Malecon of Puerto Plata, with the raising of the Dominican flag and the playing of the National Anthem.

This was followed by speeches from the Bishop of the Diocese of Puerto Plata, Monseñor Julio César Corniel Amaro, and Colonel Richardson Marte Estrella. There were further speeches by teacher Rosa García Crespo; the director of the Gregorio Luperón museum; Puerto Plata governor, Iván Rivera; and the president of the Permanent Commission of Patriotic Anniversaries, Juan Daniel Balcácer.

The speeches were followed by a parade of military and civilians throughout the city.
