
On Monday, 30 September 2019, the authorities detained lawyer Alexis Chanel Aponte. He is accused of having forged the signature of Anibel González on the agreement that allowed her former spouse, Yasmil Oscar Fernández, to go free from jail. He then shot her, and killed her, before committing suicide.
According to the Prosecution Service, Chanel Aponte, who represented Yasmil Oscar Fernández in the agreement, was arrested in San Pedro de Macoris. The National Institute of Forensic Science (Inacif) verified that Chanel Aponte had forged the signature of the late Anibel González.
Fernández, who was serving a five-year sentence in jail, for stabbing Gonzalez in 2017, was freed based on the document.
Besides, the head prosecutor and the head of the Integrated Unit for Victims of Violence in San Pedro de Macoris, Pedro Núñez Jiménez and Margarita Hernández Morales, respectively, have been suspended.
