911 Emergency System now available in San Francisco de Macorís

San Francisco de Macorís is now part of the 911 Emergency System. The Presidency made the announcement this week.

Around 80% of the Dominican population is now covered by the service. Presidency Minister Gustavo Montalvo says the service is now available in San Francisco de Macorís, and the nearby municipalities of Villa Riva, Pimentel, Castillo, Las Guáranas, Arenoso and Eugenio María de Hostos in the northeastern Duarte province.

Montalvo announced that before the end of the year, the 911 service will reach the provinces of Azua, Barahona, Hermanas Mirabal, Hato Mayor, Valverde, María Trinidad Sánchez and Sánchez Ramírez.

Montalvo said that in less than five years, the service has assisted 2.1 million emergencies. Also, it has provided 440,000 road assists.

The minister explained that the emergency system has contributed to reduce maternal and infant mortality, violence and crime rates, due to the timely and professional response.
