Dominican exports to Haiti are down around RD$2 billion this year, a spokesman for the Comendador Association of Merchants and Exporters told El Dia newspaper. Exports to Haiti, the second-largest Dominican market after the United States, have been on the decline since 2017 due to the social, political and economic crisis in Haiti. Dominican exports to Haiti have traditionally represented around 10% of total exports.
Leonel Castellanos Duarte, president of the Association of Industries of Herrera (Anieh) says that the trade decline has mainly affected exports of eggs, cold cuts and construction materials.
