The municipal authorities of Puerto Plata, together with local prosecutors, closed down eight nightclubs and bars along Pedro Clisante Street, the “main drag” of El Batey in Sosua, Puerto Plata province. The businesses violate the zoning laws in the tourist area of the city. Closed down were: Club 59, Merengue Bar, Bourbon Street, Platinium Disco Bar, Sosua Light 2012 Bar, Blue Ice Piano Bar, Chez Moon Real and BBQ Grill Sports Center.
The District Attorney for Puerto Plata Osvaldo Bonilla said that with the closure of these places, the authorities are complying with Resolution #09-2018 that covers the use of municipal lands. The municipal government of Sosúa issued the municipal ordinance on 30 October 2018, giving a one-year grace period for the relocation of the adult entertainment places away from Pedro Clisante Street.
