The Dominican Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) reports that Punta Catalina I has been generating a stable 360 megawatts for the national power grid. The second unit of the coal-fired thermoelectric plant has been consistently injecting over 200 megawatts into the grid. The two units should be generating around 720 megawatts no later than February 2020.
Jiménez Bichara said that Punta Catalina and the conversion of fuel oil plants to natural gas with additional savings of US$300 million a year are creating the conditions for the total elimination of the government electricity subsidy.
