The Office of the Attorney General (PGR) reports that 45 inmates at the National Penitentiary La Victoria are infected with Covid-19. The statement by the PGR explains that the prisoners who tested positive were isolated and are receiving health care. “There are 23 who are also isolated because they had contact with the positives, and who tested negative when they were given the rapid response tests. Those 23 will be tested again,” adds the PGR.
At least three inmates at La Victoria have died from the virus.
Media reports indicate that the disease spread in the jail when jail authorities did not adhere to the protocol that impeded visits and crossing between the prisoner areas in the jail.
