Government pays RD$20.4 million to pollster Sigma Dos

Somos Pueblo online portal reports that the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency issued a purchase order to Sigma Dos República Dominicana SRL dated 30 July 2019, on the same date that the then Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo announced he would compete for the presidential pre-candidate for the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). The company was hired at a cost of RD$20,461,200 million. The description of the contract establishes the contract is for services of study and research in the socioeconomic and political scenario of the country for the Information, Analysis and Strategic Programming (Diape) Agency of the government for 10 months from March 2019. The deliverables are dated 2019. Somos Pueblo reports that the contracting of the polling company was released from usual controls.

According to Somos Pueblo, the polling company is known for favorably positioning PLD candidates. Nevertheless, the company’s results were nowhere near reality in the municipal election carried out on 15 March 2020.

Somos Pueblo reports that the company has published a survey that places Gonzalo Castillo above the other contending presidential candidates.
