OAS election observer mission to come to observe 5 July elections

Accepting an invitation by the Central Electoral Board (JCE), an Organization of American States (OAS) Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) will be here for the presidential and congressional election. The mission is to be led by former Chilean President Eduardo Frei, who was here for the municipal election.

The OAS says that, taking into account the global health situation’s challenges, the mission will implement an innovative approach combining the presence of experts and observers in the field with the use of virtual platforms to enable a dialogue at a distance with those involved in the process. The mission’s analysis will address central aspects of the process, such as: electoral organization and technology, political financing, women’s political participation and electoral justice.

During its stay, the EOM will meet with electoral authorities, government representatives, political parties, candidates and civil society representatives to learn about the preparations for the elections. The observers will be present in the voting places on the day of the vote. In turn, some of the experts participating in the Mission will carry out their work from their countries of origin through virtual platforms that will allow them to meet with the main actors of the election and analyze the technical aspects of the process in a comprehensive way.

This will be the eighteenth Electoral Observation Mission that the OAS has deployed in the Dominican Republic
