
The named next Foreign Minister, Roberto Álvarez told Diario Libre that a commission is working to eliminate irregularities in the Ministry’s bloated payroll. Already, Miguel Ceara Hatton, who was recently named to the position of Economy Minister, had hinted in a TV interview with “Esta Noche con Mariasela” that those that are extra on the payroll would be removed. Noticias SIN recently reported that the Ministry of Foreign Relations has four separate payrolls. On the one corresponding to foreign mission staff, the payroll increased from 1,039 persons and wages for US$2 million to 1,463 foreign staff and US$2.44 million in wages and US$1.65 million in per diem.
Álvarez also said that soon they would announce chiefs of state that would come for the Abinader inaugural. Álvarez is a former ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Organization of American States.
He announced the priorities at the Ministry of Foreign Relation are to enable the foreign missions to protect Dominicans abroad, attract exports and investment that creates jobs in the Dominican Republic, and serve promote values of democracy and human rights as written in the Dominican Constitution. He stands by what was written in the 2010 Dominican Constitution regarding who is a Dominican national and Constitutional Court’s judgment 168/13 and 169-14 Naturalization Law.
