
Ruth Herrera and Cesar Zapata of the Ministry of Culture announced the winners of the National Literary Awards.
Herrera said even in the midst of the difficulties to daily life caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, a large number of high-quality works were delivered.
“It has been a worthy and fruitful competition in the middle of a turbulent and troubled year. Literature is rising up with all its promise and despite the crisis,” said Herrera.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Ministry of Culture’s lobby. Minister Eduardo Selman will hand the winners the diplomas and cash prizes. The winners receive RD$200,000 each.

The Salomé Ureña de Henríquez Annual Poetry Prize was won by Daniel Beltré López, for his text entitled “No es un soplo la vida” (Life is not a Breath). The jurors were the writers and poets: Manuel Llibre Otero, César Sánchez Beras and Radhamés Reyes Vásquez.
The Annual José Ramón López Short Story Award went to José Martín Paulino, for his book “Antes de que la casa se derrumbe” (Before the House Collapses). The jurors were the writers and professors: Rafael Peralta Romero, Aquiles Julián and Emelda Ramos.
The Annual Manuel de Jesús Galván Novel Prize was awarded to Franklin Gutiérrez for his work “El rostro sombrío del sueño americano” (The Somber Face of the American Dream). The jurors were the writers and academics: María Virtudes Núñez Fidalgo, Justiniano Estévez Aristy and Efraím Castillo.
The Annual Pedro Henríquez Ureña Essay Prize was awarded to Fernando Ferrán Bru, for “Los herederos. ADN cultural del dominicano” (The Heirs, Dominican Cultural DNA).
