The Ministry of Public Health and the National Health Services began on Sunday, 27 September 2020, to distribute facial masks at several of the countries main toll stations. The plan seeks to stress awareness in the population on the importance of using the masks. As reported, 300,000 facial masks will be distributed to drivers and passengers from Sunday, 27 September to Thursday, 1 October at the Las Americas, Duarte and 6 de Noviembre highway toll booths from 10am to 2pm.
Public Works Minister Deligne Ascención and National Health Service director Mario Lama made the announcement. Dr. Lama says another 500,000 facial masks will be distributed in the National District over the next two weeks in a program coordinated with National District Mayor Carolina Mejía.
Covid-19 spread has considerably dropped in the country. In Bulletin #192 with the deadline of Saturday, 26 September 2020, for the first time the fatality rate has dropped below 10% for the past 24 hours of PCR tests.
