Danilo Medina and Margarita Cedeño are now Parlacen deputies

Former President Danilo Medina and former Vice President Margarita Cedeño swore in as deputies members of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) for a four-year term. The president of the regional forum, Honduran Fanny Salinas took their oaths in a ceremony on Zoom. Both Medina and Cedeño served two terms in government, from 2012-2016 and 2016-2020. The status means the Supreme Court will hear any legal actions against them of Justice. The Dominican Republic names 20 deputies to Parlacen.

The Parlacen is the political institution and parliamentary body of the Central American Integration System (SICA). Its headquarters are in Guatemala City. The members are Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic. Costa Rica, a member of SICA, refrained from participating in Parlacen on grounds of the organization’s cost/benefits.

After concluding their respective mandates, the former presidents and former vice presidents of each of the countries with full rights automatically become part of this forum for a period of four years.
