
The former general coordinator of the civic movement Citizen Participation (PC) Francisco (Pancho) Álvarez defended on Monday, 30 November 2020 the arrests made before the dawn of several former government officials and government contractors. In his Twitter account, the lawyer said that advance notice is not given for searches. He said the prosecutors did not film the arrests and that the Public Ministry officials read the rights to the arrested. He said a relative of one of those arrested was who shared the video of the former minister of Public Health Freddy Hidalgo in underwear during the arrest. Later it was reported, it was Hidalgo’s son who shared the video. The former government official later dressed before being arrested.
Alvarez tweeted: “Searches are never announced in advance; the Public Ministry did not film the searches and arrests. In addition, the rights of those arrested were read and they were allowed to dress appropriately,” he posted on his Twitter account.
Furthermore, the director of the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption Agency (Pepca) who is in charge of the case, Wilson Camacho said that all the former government officials who were arrested in the early hours of the morning for alleged corruption were allowed to dress appropriately and had their rights read to them before being taken to the detention center.
He spoke in regards to the video that shows the moment of arrest of former Public Health Minister Freddy Hidalgo who is wearing underwear when leaving his house.
