The Senate of the Republic approved on Thursday, 24 June 2021 the extension of the National State of Emergency requested by President Luis Abinader. The extension would be for an additional 45 days bringing the state of exception to the end of August 2021. The motion moves to the Chamber of Deputies where it is also expected to pass because the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) is also a majority in that house.
