Government in full to push for everyone to get vaccinated

The Presidency ordered all public institutions to participate in a permanent national vaccination effort so that the country reaches in July 2021 the level of herd immunity required to reactivate the country’s economy fully.

A joint working session of ministers and directors was held on Tuesday, 29 June 2021 for this purpose.

With the integration of the government entities, the intention is to facilitate transportation of citizens to vaccination centers.

The Presidency says that the Dominican Republic ranks third in Latin America in the list of countries with more doses applied per 100 inhabitants.

The vaccination campaign in the Dominican Republic has had its peaks and lows. The highest number of vaccinations happened on 10 June 2021 when 184,208 doses were applied. The Presidency announcement comes at a time when the vaccination campaign is at a low, with only 81,516 doses applied on 27 June. The Health Cabinet has said the plan is to vaccinate at least 100,000 persons per day to reach the desired herd immunity.
