Local emergency and weather authorities are monitoring Tropical Storm Elsa as it makes its way west through Caribbean Sea waters. The storm is expected to pass to the south of the country, bringing intense rains, especially for the Barahona and Pedernales provinces in the southwest.
The national weather service (ONAMET) has issued a weather alert for 15 provinces and the National District in the south of the Dominican Republic.
