Control Tower becomes a work of art at the Punta Cana International Airport

German contemporary muralist MadC (Claudia Walde) has left her mark at the control tower of the Punta Cana International Airport, the most trafficked in the Caribbean and Central America. MadC is known for her large-scale, outdoor artistic paintings.

Grupo Punta Cana says the work of art shows the warmth and culture of the Dominican
Republic as it welcomes tourists. Speaking for Grupo Punta Cana, Jake Kheel, vice president of Punta Cana Foundation, says the German artist captured her vision of the country in the mural. He said that the artist created the exclusive design for the Punta Cana International Airport.

“This project aims to show our visitors a new experience, it is to share international culture with local culture, something different that you do not have in other places,” Kheel told Diario Libre.

Kheel said that the project was carried out in alliance with L2 Studio and that it is the first airport control tower in Latin America that is converted into a public work of art.

He said the innovative initiative turns the control tower into a landmark, highlighting the cosmopolitan nature of tourism in the area, embellished with memorable colors and shapes. He says the intention is to welcome the millions of tourists and travelers that use the airport.

He explained that the renowned artist MadC has more than 22 years delivering urban art and graffiti. The artist has carried out dozens of public art works internationally, including projects commissioned in Abu Dhabi, Germany, United States, Colombia, France, Denmark, Finland and England. She is considered one of the most outstanding muralists in the world today.
