Hot summer days continue

The good news is that September, the peak month for hurricanes in the Dominican Republic, is almost gone and the country has not had a scare.

The bad news is that the passing Sahara Dust and the usual summer heat has people sweltering and melting from the high temperatures. Highs of 33-35C are forecast for most of the country. Emmanuel Alvarez of the Weather Office (Onamet) says the thermal sensation could be up to 45C because of the humidity.

Fan companies and air-conditioning vendors are doing very well this year. The forecast for a scorching summer has proven right on the dot. The same hot weather is expected to continue until relief comes in November.

Meteorologist Jean Suriel says that the climate, in general, has changed and that is why the hot temperatures last longer. He explains in the 90s heat was suffocating from 11am to 4pm. Now the warm weather sets in from as early as 9am and continues through 6pm, regardless of whether the El Niño or La Niña weather phenomena are present, Suriel says as reported in N Digital.

MikeFisher of DR1 Weather says as of yet no storms in the Caribbean pipeline bode danger for the Dominican Republic. The Atlantic hurricane season ends in November.
