President Abinader praises the military; checks out advances at Cusep

President Luis Abinader expressed his pride in the members of the Armed Forces for their work in the defense of the country. “The Dominican people should feel proud of the Armed Forces, the National Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the specialized bodies that are fulfilling a task at the service of the country,” said the head of state.

He made the remarks when attending together with Vice President Raquel Peña, the continuing of the Presidential Security Corps (CUSEP) workshop areas.

President Abinader had special praise for the work of the members of the Air Force, which in his opinion allows the country’s skies to be protected from drug trafficking.

“We have to highlight the members who are on the border with a special dedication working fixedly for 12 hours and resting just eight, touring our border to guarantee our territorial integrity. This fills me with pride,” said the President.

The President announced the military will benefit from government housing programs.

The President congratulated Brigade General Celín Rubio Terrero, chief of the for all that has been done with the same budget of previous years. Speaking at the event, General Celin Rubio Terrero, head of the Cusep, gave a comprehensive report on the achievements of the Cusep in his first year in charge. He highlighted the remodeling of the infrastructure, the acquisition of equipment and the improvement of the conditions of the more than 1,000 military under his charge.

Among the achievements are the reorganization of the payroll, the inclusion of the agents in the premium insurance of Senasa (National Health Service), the installation of a laundry, mechanical and painting workshops for the vehicles, the optimization of the fuel dispenser and the delivery of free uniforms to the members of the presidential advance guard.

The activity took place at a time when the former head and deputy heads of the Cusep (Major General Adan Cáceres and general Julio Camilo de los Santos Viola, respectively) are charged with major corruption in office.
