The Ombudsman of the Dominican Republic, Pedro Pablo Ulloa in an interview on Esta Noche con Mariasela, summed up what his office is about. The Ombudsman Office recently made headlines after the directors of the Vehicular Retention Center (El Canodromo) violently impeded the ombudsman team and media from inspecting the facility. The Digesett director in charge of the institution later said on a radio interview that she did not know what the Defensor del Pueblo was.
Ulloa had gone to inspect the center after citizen complaints of delays in retrieving their vehicles and that their vehicles were being returned missing parts. Ulloa said on the interview with ENM that a high level meeting was held between those who oversee the entity to determine the process for returning vehicles and eventually carry out a public auction for vehicles that are abandoned at the center.
